I read “Never Eat Alone” as part of a book club at the office. Especially in an office that had many people with their nose to the grindstone, the book offered straight forward recommendations that inspired me to make the time needed out of my busy life to do the appropriate level of social engagement. Although not every recommendation fit my personality and comfort zone, I enjoyed reading the anecdotes and I explored different options worked for me.
Having the social engagement as part of my priorities established relationships that helped me in the office as well as in my personal endeavors. Through my social engagements, I was able to help people within my network in different ways. At the same time, I received advice, recommendations for career opportunities, and learned about different investment opportunities through relationships. As someone who is naturally an introvert and likes to solve problems autonomously, I am reminded to leverage relationships to see things you may not see yourself.
